The Saharo-Sahelian regions of Africa struggle with chronically recurring food insecurity problems, due in part to the harsh climate, unpredictable rainfall, and the heavy desertification that has taken place in the 20th century. SaharaSahel stimulates and executes research into the questions on how natural vegetation can be used to feed important and growing populations in ecologocally-friendly ways. It also promotes activities that spread such uses, for example through the hanza program.
